Fashion changes are frequent but there are traditional accessories that always remain and one of them is ribbons. Ribbons have always played an important role in fashion and it is considered as one of the oldest design elements. Ribbons are used as accents in women’s garments from lingerie to party clothes including hair accessories.
Japanese women are wearing ribbons and they post their images on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. However, it is considered as a bizarre event because Japanese women are using the ribbons for breast lifting. The look is inspired by a popular anime cartoon character called Hestia. In the anime show Is It Wrong to Pickup Girls in a Dungeon, the heroine Hestia is designed with a cartoonish face and outsized eyes and long bunches of hair that reaches her thighs.
Hestia is a Greek Goddess hence the anime character is dressed in a white frock but it is short and backless with a plunging neckline and matching white gloves. A distinctive blue ribbon is looped tightly around her torso and tied into a bow resting on her upper arms. Since the ribbon is tied under the breasts, it will be uplifted every time the arms are raised.
The blue ribbon has become a Hestia signature look and this is being copied by female fans. The Hestia-look is not only being copied by cosplayers who dress up in their favorite anime characters, but it is also being imitated by ordinary girls. Images of girls wearing blue ribbons under their breasts have trended on social media. The trend has extended to dolls wearing the copycat costume. A Lego figure is designed to look as close as possible to the anime character.
While some girls opt for a single loop around their breasts and arms, others aim to emphasize their cleavage by tying the ribbon at least twice on the chest to give the cleavage a better boost when the arms are lifted. Fans have created detailed diagrams on how to tie the blue ribbon to gain the best results.
