East Kent Hospital Needs £28m Of Urgent Repairs

A hospital trust in East Kent, England, needs to find providers like www.cphboilerrepairssheffield.co.uk, as their facilities need £28.3m of repairs in order to prevent failures as well as major disruption to its clinical services.

According to NHS Digital, the estimated costs needed to bring up the buildings and the equipment run by the East Kent Hospitals Trust up to standard would sit at £71.7m.

The trust, which operates Kent and Canterbury, William Harvey and QEQM hospitals, would need a lot of repairs, like measures to ensure that the buildings are structurally sound, generator and boiler maintenance, as well as updating and upgrading the software on their medical equipment.

The hospital at Canterbury, which was built back in 1937, currently has a repair backlog amounting to £8.1m, while the costs of dealing with the repair backlog at Ashford’s William Harvey and Margate’s QEQM is £9.5m and £10.6m, respectively.

The National Health Services define ‘high-risk’ repairs as any of those that, if left unchecked, have a high cause to ‘catastrophic failure’, major disruption to clinical services, and/or problems with safety that would lead to injury or casualties, as well prosecution.

The data shows that, in spite of East Kent Hospitals spending £2.2m in order to cut down on the backlog in 2017, the infrastructure problems present in its facilities still led to 214 where patients were either harmed or put at risk of being harmed.

The cost of getting rid of the trust’s high-risk backlog sat at £5.5m back in 2013-14, representing a 400% increase in four years’ time.

NHS Providers, representatives of trusts across the health service, says that years of financial pressures as well as raiding capital funds in order to cover daily expenditures has led to hospital managers struggling to keep up with the escalating repair bills.

A spokesperson for East Kent Hospitals says that the trust recently secured ú6.4m for the construction of new observation wards for emergency departments for the QEQM and William Harvey hospitals. The spokesperson also states that the maintenance of buildings and estate is a common issue for a lot of the organisations of the NHS in keeping them updated with the demands of modern healthcare delivery, which is why many would try to look to providers like www.cphboilerrepairssheffield.co.uk for deals.
