More Than 100 Street Artists To Transform Cheltenham In A Town Of Art

When it comes to things to do in Cheltenham, there is a plethora of attractions from parks, museums, theatres and nightlife scene. Walking tours are offered to visitors throughout spring and summer to view the most notable buildings and monuments. One activity that visitors must never miss is the Cheltenham Paint Festival where more than 100 artists are expected to arrive at the spa town next month. Last year, the event was held at the North Place car park, lower High Street and other locations which were filled with street art. This year, the buildings that will undergo a makeover include Bays hill Inn in George’s Place.

The main festival which is now on its 2nd year will be held on the weekend of September 8 and 9 although some large scale works can be expected by September 3. According to festival director Andy “Dice” Davis, huge new walls will be going up while some spots will be redone from last year’s art.

Some of the artistic works last year will remain like “My Dog Sighs” which was a colourful art in Hard wick Campus and the “William’s Wall” in Tewkesbury Road. One of the most memorable art works that were done last year include Angus McBob’s “Alice in Wonderland” at the Frog and Fiddle pub along High Street.

This year’s headliner will be Beau Stanton, one of the world’s greatest mural artists. Stanton is widely known for his paintings, murals and large scale installations. In Detroit where he resides, Stanton used remnants of the city’s architectural history in creating 80,000 tesserae that he turned into a collection of mosaics. This year, he will be paint the side of Bayshill Inn.
